Sessions with Shawna

Sigmund Freud said, “Love and work are the cornerstones of our humanness.” And I do believe his insight was right: positive relationships and fulfilling, productive work impact our mental and physical wellness. This forms the focus of my practice.

I believe that humans are wired to desire growth and authentic connection. That is what therapy with me is all about: personal growth and relational connection.

Most of the work I do involves relationships…this may be the relationship with your significant other, your career, your family, or even your relationship with yourself!

I can help you gain more clarity into your situation, provide tools that you can use immediately to start feeling better, and support you in making the choices which are right for you. My clients notice that after a few sessions they have found answers within themselves.

I use an integrative approach to understand your life experiences and how they have led to your feeling unhappy, lost, or confused, and ultimately seeking therapy. Counseling models that influenced my work include Terry Real’s Relational Life Therapy, solution-focused theory and psychodynamic theory. As a Master Practitioner of Neurolinguistic Programming, I often incorporate this approach into my sessions, which can allow my clients to quickly access their own tools for life's obstacles.

My counseling style is to collaborative, warm and believe it or not, sometimes we even laugh in sessions!

I counsel adults of all ages, offering both one-to-one and couples sessions. I specialize in the treatment of life transitions, relationship conflict, affair recovery, career issues, anxiety, depression, addictions and childhood emotional neglect.

If you are ready to take a new path forward....you are in the right place!
